Athenagoras (Theodore) Kokkinakis was born on the island of Patmos in 1912. He graduated from the Theological School of Halki in 1934 having completed a study on ‘The Anthropology of St Gregory of Nyssa.’ He served as a deacon from 1934-1935 in the Patriarchate of Alexandria and served as a presbyter in New York in the Archdiocese of America. On the 14th of September 1950, he was ordained Titular Bishop of Elaias and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of America. He served as Head of the Theology School of Holy Cross, Boston. On 6th September 1960, be became a Titular Metropolitan. On 10th December 1963 he was elected Metropolitan of Thyateira and Great Britain and on the 24th February 1968 he was elevated to Archbishop of our Eparchy. He died on the 9th September 1979, in London.

In 1921, he was called by Metropolitan Meletios (Metaxakis), who later became Ecumenical Patriarch, to America, where he served several Greek Orthodox parishes. In 1938 the Ecumenical Patriarchate elected him auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of America.


In 1949, he became Metropolitan of Philadelphia (residing in Athens) and in 1951 Metropolitan of Thyateira and Exarch of Western and Central Europe, with his See in London. He reposed in the Lord on the 15th of October 1962, in London.

Due to his fruitful work, his successful pastoral ministry of the Greek Orthodox Diaspora in Great Britain and Europe, his wise ecclesiastical diplomacy and the richness of his theological knowledge, Archbishop Germanos was known as a “Faros/Lighthouse of Orthodoxy”

On 12th December 1970 he was consecrated (Titular) Bishop of Tropaeou by the former Archbishop of Thyateira Athenagoras Kokkinakis at the Cathedral of the Divine Wisdom – Agia Sophia. On the 16th of April 1988 he was unanimously elected by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate as Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain.


He retired from his office as Archbishop on June 12, 2019 and reposed in the Lord on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.

Methodios Fouyias was born in 1925, in Corinthia. He received his bachelor degree in Theology from the Athens University in 1952 and continued his studies at Manchester University in Great Britain from where he received a Ph. Degree in Philosophy in 1962.


In 1970 he was appointed Theology professor at the Edinburgh University and in 1984 at the Boston Hellenic Orthodox Theological School. Methodios Fouyias was ordained deacon in 1947 and priest in 1950.


He served as head priest of the Munich Hellenic Orthodox Community from 1951 to 1954, head secretary of the Alexandria Patriarchate from 1954 to 1956 while from 1958 to 1960 Methodios was head priest at the Addis Ababa Greek Orthodox Community and teacher at the Greek School there.


From 1966 to 1968 he was secretary of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece and from 1968 to 1979 served as Metropolitan Bishop of Ethiopia. Having moved jurisdiction, to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, he was appointed Archbishop of Thyateira and served this Archdiocese from 1979 to 1989.


Methodios has written many ecclesiastical and theological books. He reposed in the Lord on Friday, July 7, 2006.
